We’ve always been a little skeptical about Oreo Truffles. The thing is, we’ve always found it weird that Oreos and cream cheese dipped in chocolate could be scrumptious. After reading Simon vs the Homo Sapien Agenda, though, we decided to give them a try. If you haven’t read the book yet, you might be a little confused as to why a book inspired us to try a dessert. Simon, the main character, is absolutely obsessed with Oreos (they’re one of his favorite desserts) and his mom makes Oreo truffles for Christmas. We had to know what all the fuss was about!
Fortunately, these truffles proved our skepticism to be unwarranted. These little balls of delight are absolutely delicious. Cream cheese and Oreos might sound a little weird, but, trust us, you won’t think so once you try them. Have you ever made Oreo Truffles before? They couldn’t be simpler. You simply ground up the Oreos in a food processor and then mix with cream cheese. After that, you chill them in the refrigerator for an hour before dipping them in chocolate.
For these, it doesn’t really matter what kind of chocolate you use, white or chocolate. We used white because that’s what we had in our cupboard but use whatever you like the best. As for grinding the Oreos in a food processor, if you don’t have one you can smash them in a gallon bag with a rolling pin. You may want to do this in batches and watch for holes in the bag (we’ve neglected this and made a mess in the past…). Although we don’t recommend this method, you can do it with determination and patience!
Enough chit chat, let’s get to baking!
Oreo Truffles, just how we imagine Simon's mom makes them in Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda! They are easy to make and absolutely delicious.
- 1 pkg oreo Regular stuff
- 1 pkg (8oz) cream cheese room temp.
- chocolate, for dipping
In a food processor, crush the oreos until they resemble fine crumbs. Set aside
In a stand mixer, beat the cream cheese until it's creamy, about 2 minutes. Add the oreo crumbs and mix just until the two come together.
Roll the Oreo/cream cheese mixture into tablespoon sized balls. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
Once, the truffles are refrigerated, dip them into melted chocolate (white, semi sweet, milk- it doesn't matter). Enjoy!
