Brown Butter Rice Krispies

We know that with school now in full swing and with the holidays coming up, everyone is looking for quick and easy dinners, lunches, and desserts. So, we thought we’d make a quick and easy recipe for this weeks post. And guess what? It doesn’t even require an oven! It’s 3 ingredients, 3 steps, and only 20 minutes. We know, we’re working magic over here! But like, it’s actual magic, because obviously, we’re witches (shhh… don’t tell anyone, the Ministry’ll have our hides for telling!)

See all those little brown flecks in the krispies? Thats flavor! Thats what that is! You know, as kids everyone said eating burnt things put hair on your chest? Yes, terrifying to every little girl who doesn’t want to grow up looking like a wooly mammoth (and probably the reason we won’t touch burnt things with a 10 foot pole today!). And if you try to tell us that the burnt part “adds flavor” prepare to watch this table get flipped. It doesn’t. Your just lying to yourself to try and choke down that burnt hot dog. But, ya, it’s not that kind of flavor: it’s the kind of flavor that actually, you know, tastes good!

Everyone loves a good Rice Krispie, but it can get tiring to eat the same old, same old, right? Well, let us introduce you to the new and improved Rice Krispie : the Brown Butter Rice Krispie. Adding brown butter to a traditional rice krispie makes it so much better, it makes it seem more elegant. We guess you could look at these as Rice Krispie Treats for the adults!

So, instead of packing these in the kids lunches, put them in yours! We’ll let those kids keep eating their krispies, we’ll be over in the corner with the good stuff. *add maniacal laughter for effect*

Putting salt on these adds yet another delicious dimension to these puppies (not real puppies, those are too cute to eat). Adding salt makes them taste even better-er than before. You can make it with or without the salt, either way, it’s delicious, we’re just saying that it tastes even better with the salt sprinkled on top!

Okay, grab yourself a pot, a spoon, and let’s get baking (or in this case, not baking)!

Brown Butter Rice Krispies

  • Servings: 12-24, depending on how you cut it
  • Difficulty: ridiculously easy
  • Print

Ingredients:

8 Tbsp (1 stick) butter

4 cups mini marshmallows

5 cups Rice Krispie cereal

coarse sea salt, for sprinkling

Directions:

  1. In a 4 qt pot, melt the butter on medium heat. Once it’s melted, let it continue to cook until it’s brown and has a slight nutty smell.
  2. Add in the marshmallows and cook until the mallows are completely melted.
  3. Remove from heat. Stir in the cereal, until it is completely covered in sticky stuff. Firmly press into a buttered 9X13 in baking pan. Let cool before cutting.
